Campi Ya Kanzi

Discover Campi Ya Kanzi

Don’t come to Campi ya Kanzi if you’re anticipating plunge pools, spas, fancy lighting, marble bathrooms, wi-fi in the wilderness and the associated unsustainable uses of generators and water (the scarcest resource in Africa). This is indeed a super-luxurious camp, but of a different kind. Enjoy a gin and tonic in Hemingway’s beloved green hills in front of Mount Kilimanjaro; get to know extraordinary Masai trackers; explore the vast wilderness completely uninterrupted; see animals at every turn safe in the knowledge that this beautiful lodge sits lightly on the land it occupies. That’s why it’s called “Camp of Hidden Treasure”.

Highlights

Walking through the Masai-owned wilderness with a local guide who knows every inch of it like the back of his hand.

Trekking through the cloud forest of the Chyulu Hills, the green hills of Africa.

Dining in a torch-lit cavern that once served to hide the livestock raided by the Masai from neighbouring Wakamba tribesmen. A magical experience

The lodge

Stone, thatch, a large fireplace and deep-cushioned seating make up the lounge area, where guests can compare their experiences or read. There’s a long dining table where excellent dishes are served, and a wide veranda on which to sip your wine and gaze at the animals, the tumble of hills and, of course, Africa’s beloved Kili. There’s no wi-fi here or TV here, so this is your chance to network with nature, profoundly.

The rooms

There are six tented cottages, each named for the hill it faces – Chyulu, Olenyo Waite, etc. All have hardwood floors, Persian rugs, beds you’ll sleep well in, full en-suite bathroom and private veranda. The Hemingway and Simba tented suites have the best views of the camp’s watering hole – watch zebra, giraffe and lion slaking their thirst while you do the same on your veranda. Travelling in a larger group? Kanzi House accommodates up to 10 people, with private dining, your own staff, a pool, pool cottage, fire pit and view of Kili.
