What could be more exciting for a child than spotting their first leopard, learning how to throw a Masai spear, roasting marshmallows over a camp-fire to the calls of distant lions, or seeing brightly coloured fish through goggles?

A family safari in East Africa is a holiday to be remembered for life. All of our properties welcome and accommodate children by offering flexible dining times, children’s menus and most importantly, children’s activities to help them see the wonders of Africa. In this way we ensure that every member of a family group gets the most out of their safari. Our guides love nothing more than introducing children to the world that they love so much, showing them the animals

but also imparting knowledge and a love of Africa which will stick with them for life. Our guides will ensure that children have fun, grow an appreciation of their surroundings and encourage them to become the next custodians of this fragile part of our planet.

Our family-friendly options

From expert guiding and personal attention, to unmatched accommodation and service, everything is focused on planning an African safari experience the entire family will enjoy. Children will love being outdoors, searching for iconic African animals and experiencing the world the way nature intended.

Some of our camps offer specially tailored activities to keep younger visitors educated and entertained. Among other exciting things, they may learn how to identify animal tracks, go on guided bush walks and find out about the customs of East Africa.

Our selected exclusive-use houses in Kenya & Tanzania are among the most popular options for families, as they offer a more private experience and accommodate children of all ages. In Nairobi Giraffe Manor, At Basecamp Masai Mara in Masai maraOl Donyo Lodge, Tortilis Camp in Amboseli or Matemwe Beach House in Zanzibar, families can enjoy their own private chef, vehicle and guide so there’s never a hassle with naps or mealtimes.

Children aged 3 and up are warmly welcomed at all of our camps and lodges, some camps can even be booked for exclusive use, and most have larger family tents that can accommodate up to five people. However, due to location and facilities, some destinations are more suitable than others. Please see our accommodation pages for more details or contact us for expert advice on arranging your ideal family itinerary.
